Shilaidah Rabindra Kuthibari Museum, Kushtia: Memories of Rabindranath Tagore are intertwined in Shilaidah Kuthibari. From Kushtia town, 15 km north-east, within Kumarkhali upazila, Khoreshadpur of Shilaidah union, Kuthibari is situated.

Rabindranath’s grandfather Prince Dwarkanath Tagore got the zamindari of this region in 1807. Later in 1889, Rabindranath Tagore came here as a zamindar. Here he managed the zamindari till 1901. At this time, sitting here, he composed his famous books Sonar Tari, Chitra, Chaitali, etc., also started translation of Gitanjali poetry.

Since 1958, the house of Shilaidah Rabindranath Tagore has been preserved as a glorious monument under the management of the Directorate of Archaeology. After the independence of Bangladesh in 1971, realizing the importance of Kuthibari, it was established as a museum by collecting various works of poet.

The entire building is now open to visitors as a museum. In the 16 rooms below and on the second floor of the museum – poet Rabindranath, artist Rabindranath, zamindar Rabindranath, farmer friend Rabindranath – i.e. pictures of Rabindranath of different ages and different poses. Photographs from childhood to deathbed have been preserved. Moreover, it is neatly decorated with artworks and furniture used by him.

Among the useful items in Kabi Bhavan are two speedboats named Chanchala and Chapla, paltuns, 8 Behara palanquins, wooden chairs, tea tables, sofa sets, comfortable chairs, couches etc.

Where to get tickets:

There is a ticket counter next to the gate of the museum, the ticket price is 15.00/- BDT per person, but no ticket is required for any child under five years of age. However, the entry fee for secondary level children and teenagers has been fixed at BDT 5.00/-. The ticket price for SAARC foreign visitors is 50.00/ BDT and for other foreign visitors the ticket price is 100.00/- BDT.

The museum is open from 10 am to 6 pm during summer. It is closed for half an hour in the middle from 1 pm to 1.30 pm. And in winter it is open from 9 am to 5 pm. Closed from 1 pm to 1.30 pm even in winter. And it is always closed on Fridays for Jumma prayers from twelve thirty to three. Sunday is a public holiday and Monday is open from 2.00 p.m. Also the museum is open on any special official day.
